The state government on Monday appointed 1991-batch IPS officer C H Pratap Reddy as Bengaluru Police Commissioner, replacing Director General of Police Kamal Pant. Pant has been transferred and posted as DGP, Recruitment.

Reddy was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law & Order, of the state. A BTech graduate, Reddy is from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. He had earlier served as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Bengaluru. His first posting was as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Arsikere, Hassan district.

Reddy has served as Director of Cyber Security, National Association of Software and Services Companies (cyber security wing), Bengaluru. He is known for his cyber security initiatives in Nasscom. He has worked in the CBI, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

He has won the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and the chief minister’s medal.

Kamal Pant, speaking to DH, thanked the citizens of Bengaluru. “They were very supportive. I am equally thankful to the government for their trust in me and support throughout,” Pant said.

Two officers transferred

The government also transferred Alok Kumar, who was serving as ADGP, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), and posted him as ADGP, Law & Order. R Hitendra, ADGP, Crimes and Technical Services, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, KSRP.

Another IPS officer M N Anucheth, who was the deputy commissioner of police, Central Division, has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
