Bengaluru: The proposal to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to manage major infrastructure projects in Bengaluru is expected to be discussed at the state cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The SPV will include both the state government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as stakeholders, with the cabinet likely to determine the shareholding ratio between them.
Once the SPV is formed, the BBMP will no longer directly oversee projects such as tunnel roads, elevated corridors, and new roads proposed along the buffer zones of rajakaluves (primary stormwater drains).
Even white-topping works and the Sky Deck project may be handled by the SPV, which is expected to have its own office in Vasanthnagar.
In his state budget, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the creation of the SPV to implement various initiatives aimed at reducing Bengaluru's traffic congestion on a priority basis.
The new entity will be led by an Additional Chief Secretary from the Urban Development Department (UDD), while the BBMP Chief Commissioner will serve as its chairperson. Additionally, three independent experts — including at least one woman — will be part of the board.
