A car goes up in flames causing traffic jam on Marathahalli-Bellandur Road on Friday evening.

The traffic came to a standstill for about half an hour between Marathahalli and Bellandur after a car caught fire and stopped on Bellandur bridge on Friday evening. The HSR Layout police summoned a fire tender, cleared the car and facilitated the vehicular movement.

Rohith was driving his Tata Indica (KA 13 5148) from Marathahalli to Silk Board around. Thick smoke emanated from inside the car while it was on the bridge around 5 pm. Within seconds, the car caught fire and it was in flames.

“We drove an ambulance in one-way from the opposite direction and reached the spot within 10 minutes. We doused the fire and cleared the car,” said, Rao Ganesh, HSR Layout traffic inspector.

The incident occurred during peak hours. Moreover, a large number of cars pass on the bridge on Fridays as professionals go out of the city in their private vehicles. Hence, the incident resulted in congestion.

The police cleared the car in just 15 minutes and facilitated the smooth vehicular flow.
