The High Court of Karnataka ordered for the CBI probe, saying there were multiple leads from investigating teams of various states.

Ajitabh (29), a city-based software engineer, went missing when he left home after receiving a call from a prospective buyer for his car on December 18, 2017. Ajitabh's father Ashok Kumar Sinha said his roommates last saw the techie driving his new car to show it to a prospective buyer.

Sinha said Ajitabh had qualified to pursue MBA at IIM Kolkata and had to deposit Rs 5 lakh by December 20, 2017. He placed the advertisement on the online marketing site to sell his car to pay for his higher studies.

Ajitabh did his engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology in 2010.
