Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 43-year-old man for allegedly swindling Rs 12.4 lakh from eight people by promising them jobs in multinational companies in the city.

The Special Inquiry Wing (SIW) of the CCB arrested Patnool Khalandar Khan, a resident of south Bengaluru’s JP Nagar. He had come to Bengaluru about a year ago in search of a job and joined a consultancy firm.

The police said he did not work there for long and soon quit the job. However, he used the consultancy’s email ID and posted fake job offers on social media pages. Believing them to be genuine, a 24-year-old woman approached him in December. He promised her a job at a reputed multinational company and got her to send him Rs 2.7 lakh.

A senior CCB officer told DH that when she didn’t get any job offers, she approached the police and registered a complaint. The SIW sleuths tracked down Khan and arrested him following the complaint.

Further investigations revealed that Khan had cheated eight others, swindling about Rs 10 lakh. The police are currently tracing two more absconding suspects who assisted Khan.
