What could have been a better way to celebrate the successful completion of an international fashion institute in the country other than to showcase the specially designed collection by a known fashion designer?
Lisaa, the premier French design school organised a gala ceremony at the Crescent to mark the successful completion of two years in India and designer Nitin Bal Chauhan along with the students of the institute showcased a metallic yet vibrant collection on the occasion.
While the emcees for the night were Bikram Bawa and Sarabjit Singh from the India team of Lisaa, the stage for celebration was actually set by Stephen Bertalli, director, international education, Lisaa, France when he talked about the achievements of the school and its students. He also spoke of the coming together of various elements of design including fashion, interior design and graphics in everyday lives.
The highlight of the night was a fashion show titled Like a Rolling Stone by maverick Nitin Bal Chauhan who was inspired by travellers and different genres in music. His collection was dominated by monochromes and a lot of prints. One of the interesting features in the show were the special headgears designed by the students.
Both the technical and aesthetic aspects were taken into account while designing the overall ensembles. “This was the first time we made three dimensional headgears. We stuck to metallic because it’s the latest trend,” said Shefali, one of the students pursuing a foundation course.
“The best part of designing headgears was that we had to create them using mundane objects. This exercise also involved recycling of different materials and it was a great learning in how everything can be utilised in multi-dimensional ways,” she explained. As a result, one saw metal pieces attached to headphones; masks with wires falling down resembling hair or wires whirled atop a head - akin to a sadhu’s natural matted hairdo!
Meanwhile, Nitin’s inputs to the students were based on different aspects of design philosophy. He advised them to read up about design in books, journals and magazines, asked them to devote their time to learning about different art forms; trends to watch out for; devote time listening to music and even watching movies, since all of these eventually influence design.
The occasion also saw the coming together of eminent faces from the field of fashion, entertainment and
design.
