Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday lashed out at the BJP-led Union government stating that the GST notices were causing trouble for street vendors and small businesses.
“They are serving notices to those doing a business of over Rs 40 lakh and to tender coconut sellers, vegetable vendors and so on. This is the achievement of the Centre. The traders don’t have to worry, we will take necessary actions to protect their interests,” he said while speaking at the programme to distribute government benefits to the people in Hoskote.
Shivakumar was referring to a directive by the Commercial Taxes Department, which noted that businesses with an annual turnover exceeding Rs 40 lakh (for goods) and Rs 20 lakh (for services) must register for GST and pay the appropriate taxes.
“We have also decided to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to bring the metro to Hoskote and we’ll ensure that it’s completed in our term.”
Pointing out that the state government had taken steps to regularise B-Khata properties in Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated that the government was providing patta khatas to over one crore people.
“BJP is duplicating the guarantees of the Congress and announcing them in all states headed for polls. In Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat, they have implemented guarantees. Even those opposed to us are copying us,” the deputy chief minister said.
