Child lock in cabs on the way out, govt tells HC

The state government has a prepared a draft amendment to the Karnataka On-demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, on disengaging child locks in cabs, the high court was informed on Wednesday.

The Law Department is vetting the draft amendment and will send its report by October 10. Once that comes, the amendment will be notified, the government advocate told a division bench headed by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari.

The bench is hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by the Bangalore Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which has called for disengaging the child lock following crimes against women travelling by cabs.

The court expressed disappointment over repeated adjournments as the state sought extensions. It will now hear the matter on October 10.
