Bengaluru: Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat is set to launch the first edition of 'Namma Art Bengaluru', a national art fair, on Wednesday.
The five-day event, till June 1, will feature about 100 contemporary artists from across the country. The artworks, displayed across the campus, will also be available for sale.
"With the success of Chitra Santhe in mind, we came up with the concept of the art fair. We have curated a list of artists taking part in the upcoming event based on their art and reach. We are providing a platform for budding artists to display their works. In the future, we plan to be on par with the India Art Fair that takes place in Delhi,” said B L Shankar, president of Chitrakala Parishat. The organisation plans to host the art fair annually.
About 51 artists from Karnataka will be participating in the event, while the rest will be travelling down from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Pondicherry, Telangana, and the UAE.
The organisation has also invited about 20 senior artists to display their works at the art fair. This includes Vasudev SG, Vijay Hagargundi, Andani VG, Bhaskar Rao, Gurudas Shenoy, and Chandranath Acharya, among others. Their works will be spread across two galleries — Gallery 3 and 4. The event will also feature panel discussions, curated talks, and live art demonstrations.
The art fair will be inaugurated by HK Patil, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation and Tourism, on Wednesday at 4.30 pm. He will be joined by SN Agarwal, president of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat Trust.
