The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to wash Church Street once in a week.

This 750-metre TenderSURE road will be washed with detergent to remove soot that accumulates on cobblestones.

"These cobblestones might turn black as many vehicles pass by and the soot accumulates on it. If we do not clean and maintain it regularly, then it might lose its sheen," said K T Nagaraj, chief engineer, road infrastructure, (project central), BBMP.

He also said that as of now, the plan is to wash the road once a week. "But eventually, we might take up the work twice in a week. We have already called for tenders for water supply and the work will begin soon. This will be the first road in the city to be washed," he said.

About 10% of the work on the road is still pending. The street was open for public use on March 1. The civic body also plans to develop Museum Road as a TenderSURE road. Museum Road is 500 metres long and will be developed at a cost of Rs 3.4 crore.
