Bengaluru will soon have Wi-Fi connectivity in many public places, including the city market and bus stand, Mayor R Sampath Raj said on Tuesday.

"We'll soon be working on the project (to set up Wi-Fi)," Raj said. "Even farmers use internet and are adept at technology. It's sad that our city doesn't have public Wi-Fi which is important in this digital age."

The BBMP is also preparing to introduce digital identification numbers for properties. "Citizens can download and install the special 'Digi App' released for the purpose. Once they type the PID number (in the app), they would get the digital identification numbers," BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said, adding that the system will be rolled out in 15 days.

He said the alpha-numeric number has been assigned to even the vacant plots and the number can be used to retrieve record such as property tax and other information. Prasad also said the project cost the Palike Rs 83,000.

The BBMP is also planning to release the "fix my street" app that would let citizens complain directly to the engineers on poor roads. The complaints will be addressed within 48 hours, the Mayor said.
