The high court on Thursday orally observed that Bengaluru needs smooth motorable roads as even the arterial roads, which are the lifeline of the city, aren't smooth as they should have been.

While hearing a PIL on potholes, Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, heading a division bench, observed: " I want Bengaluru to really enjoy Christmas this time ."

To this, the civic body's counsel submitted that he would work to ensure that the city has a merry Christmas.

As per the court's direction, the zones of Mahadevpura and Bommanahalli have been made motorable, the counsel said and submitted the certified measurement books sought by the court.

The counsel stated that they were planning to come up with 20 more TensderSURE roads and would completely avoid road cutting.

The court stated that it wants the pothole filling work to be evaluated by the court committee after the completion of substantial work.

It also stated that the work could be termed to be complete only when the BBMP engineers visit the pothole repairing site and evaluate the work.

The case was adjourned to January 16.
