Bengaluru: Many parts of Bengaluru received moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday during the city's heaviest spell of rain since June 1.
The rain caused tree falls and disrupted traffic in various areas.
A tree fell on 7th Cross Road in Chamarajpet, blocking traffic for some time. Tree branches also fell on roads in Indiranagar and Jayanagar 4th ‘T’ Block, causing brief closures.
Traffic towards Cubbon Road slowed down due to waterlogging near the Manipal Centre Junction.
Other areas, including the stretch from Palace Cross to Palace Guttahalli, the railway underpass towards Jayamahal, Khoday's Circle underpass, and the area near the Windsor Manor bridge, were also inundated, resulting in slow-moving traffic. Similar cases were reported in Bommanahalli and other outer areas.
As the rain started pouring towards the evening, commuters also struggled to book autorickshaws and cabs. A large number of people were seen at metro stations as cab and auto aggregators raised fares, citing peak demand.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru city received 32.8 mm and HAL airport 24.8 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm on Sunday.
Since June 1, the city observatory has recorded 101.8 mm of rainfall and the HAL airport 95.8 mm. Both observatories have received less than normal rainfall since June 1, according to the IMD.
Forecast for today
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rains with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) in many places over Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural on Monday.
