Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday asserted that Bengaluru would soon undergo a major transformation, referring to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike's intensive cleanliness drive, extended by four weeks.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said that the BBMP would launch a new helpline number for residents to report uncleared garbage blackspots.

He also announced that Greater Bengaluru would soon replace the BBMP, contributing further to the city’s development.

He was addressing the media after laying the foundation stone for a 4 MLD (million litres per day) ground-level reservoir in Pulakeshinagar. The project, he said, would supply water to 30,000 households in the area. “We are investing Rs 130 crore in this initiative,” he added, urging the local MLA to identify land for a new school and hospital in the locality.

Shivakumar, also the Bengaluru Development Minister, said he would regularly inspect white-topping works to ensure quality. “These roads must last for the next 30 years,” he stated.

Shivakumar further mentioned that a new tender would soon be issued for the collection and transportation of waste from households and commercial establishments. "The court has given four months to complete the tendering process, and we will ensure complete transparency,” he assured.
