The division will operate under the jurisdiction of Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha police station.
Termed as the citizens army, Civil Defence was decided to be extended to all the districts in the country by the Government post-tsunami.
However, it is slowly gathering momentum now, said the State Civil Defence Chief Warden Major General T M John (retd). He added that Bangalore had been divided into 50 divisions and only 27 were created till now. “We intend to set up 33 more divisions in a period of six to eight months,” he said.
Civil Defence is a volunteer organisation, which runs on the principle ‘by the people, for the people’. The volunteers help in emergency and natural disaster situations.
Apart from weapon training, water management, fire fighting, etc, they also conduct counselling. On July 24-25, they will hold counselling for youngsters to join civil defence. The counselling will be done a professor f psychology in Bangalore University. M N Vidyashankar, principal secretary to Government, e-governance, DPAR(AR) was also present at the occasion.
