Bengaluru: A 15-year-old girl jumped to her death from an apartment complex in eastern Bengaluru on Wednesday after her mother allegedly scolded her over exams, police officials said.
The deceased is a Class 10 student at a prominent CBSE school in Whitefield.
The incident at at Assetz Marq apartment complex in Kadugodi was reported to the police around 11.30 am.
Investigations revealed that Avantika had her Class 10 board exams, which would begin on February 15. Moments before she took the drastic step, her mother had asked her to study and limit her mobile phone usage due to the exams, the investigations revealed.
"Prima facie it was found that the deceased was distressed over this and even as her mother was at home, she went outside of her house on the 20th floor towards the balcony and jumped down, dying instantly,” a police investigator told DH.
At the time of the incident, Avantika was at home with her mother, who is a homemaker. Her father, an engineer, was away at work. The family is originally from Madhya Pradesh.
The jurisdictional Kadugodi police visited the spot and moved the body for autopsy after a preliminary probe.
The Kadugodi police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and further investigation is underway, said Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield).
