The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday rescued nine fishermen, stranded since two days in the Arabian Sea, after their boat seized due to gusty winds.

The boat, St Mary, which beared a Tamil Nadu registration, was 14 nautical miles (26 km) away from the shore. The fishermen had run out of their food and water stock. The ICG was on job after it received an alert from its Karwar office.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the boat had suffered a breakdown and could not be repaired in mid sea. There was no help nearby and the ICG pulled the boat to safety with the help of its vessel C-420, said a press release.
