Bengaluru: Although Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is yet to complete the first round of counselling for a slew of professional courses, including engineering, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) on Monday announced its counselling calendar.

Terms of the agreement between KEA and COMED-K stipulate that the latter announce its schedule only once the former has completed the first round of counselling. However, technical glitches on KEA’s website have resulted in the counselling process being delayed. A senior COMED-K official said, “The agreement allows COMED-K to proceed with counselling if KEA fails to complete its first round by July 10.”

Option entry and a mock counselling round for COMED-K seats will start on July 18. Students will be intimated about the results of the counselling round between July 28 and August 1, and during that time, students will have to report to their respective colleges, which have been instructed to intimate COMED-K about registration of students by August 4.

Meanwhile, according to KEA’s revised schedule, the results of the first round of counselling will be announced on July 25. “While COMED-K will announce the results of its first round by July 28, we are confident of publishing our results by July 25,” KEA Executive Director H Prasanna said.

The KEA Executive Director said that the technical glitches on the website had been fixed. “There was a delay in the submission of the seat matrix for medical and dental courses,” said Prasanna. Should the KEA face a further delay of only two or three days, we will request COMED-K to withhold its results for a few days, said Prasanna.

“If the government shares the seat matrix for medical and dental seats now, we can add them immediately. There are only 8,500 medical seats, and around 50,000 students,” Prasanna said.

COMED-K officials, however, said that there was no question of withholding results. “Any delay might result in the colleges not being able to enrol students from other states,” said an official from the consortium.

Sources from the Department of Medical Education said that the seat matrix for the medical and dental programmes would be submitted to the government for approval by Wednesday. “Once we get the government’s nod, we will share it with the KEA,” a source said.
