Damage to a manhole near St John’s Hospital signal in Bommanahalli Main Road upset commuters on Tuesday afternoon as buses were diverted from regular stops.

It further worsened the traffic congestion due to the ongoing white-topping and skywalk works along the road. After a barricade was put up, private and public buses, except for two-wheelers and autos, could not move through the narrow space. Those waiting for buses at three bus stops ahead of the damaged site were inconvenienced.

“There are no signboards put up for commuters where to wait for buses. We were standing in the middle of the road where the white-topping work was going on. Both private and public buses stopped only at the signal,” said Shalini S, a regular commuter.

Of late, the white-topping work along the road has led to several traffic diversions. The vehicles heading towards Electronic city should take a diversion towards the main road in front of St Johns’ Hospital and take a U-turn towards Madiwala to reach the Bommanahalli Main Road. This diversion has been causing traffic jams for a while.

Raghavendra, a traffic head constable told DH that the buses plied as usual in a matter of few hours. “The repair was completed in three to four hours. Commuters were able to catch buses from the bus stops soon after,” he said.
