Commuting on parts of Mysuru road, the adjoining Outer Ring Road and Kengeri is nothing short of a nightmare for the public.
The roads are slippery as they are filled with silt, clay, dry mud and construction materials. As potholes are filled with rain water, motorists are not able to fathom the depth of innumerable potholes that dot the roads. This poses severe danger to two-wheeler riders.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), traffic police and locals point that water logging happens as there is no space for rain water to flow.
On one side of the road towards the Vrushabhavathy valley, one can see piles of garbage. On the other side of the road are construction materials, flyover, concrete road and buildings standing on elevated footpaths, with no scope for water to flow. This causes stagnation and slow percolation, said a BBMP official.
Locals point that though this is a regular affair in these areas of west Bengaluru, authorities have not paid much attention. “It is only now that the corporation has taken note of the problem. After road works are completed, mud and other materials are not cleared from the road side. Each time it rains, the roads get flooded,” said Subbaiah a resident of Nagarbhavi.
Piled up construction materials over flow on to the roads making commuting a bigger challenge, said M Murthy, a regular commuter on the Outer Ring Road.
