An educational consultancy in the city is accused of cheating an Andhra Pradesh doctor of Rs 8 lakh.

The firm promised to find a medical seat for the son of G Edukondalu (43), a doctor from Prakasam district, at a reputed college here and made away with the money.

In his police complaint, Dr Edukondalu said ‘Search My College’ had assured to get a medical seat for his son Sai Trinath at Subbaiah Institute of Medical Science in Shivamogga under payment quota.

The firm quoted Rs 88 lakh for the seat, to which Dr Edukondalu had agreed and gave them Rs 8 lakh advance by cheque.

Owner of the firm Rajeev and his associate Akbar assured they would get back soon, but called the doctor in September to inform that they could not get a seat in Subbaiah Institute of Medical Science while it would be possible to get a seat in a different college.

The duo, however, then began avoiding calls from Dr Edukondalu. The doctor approached the police after he was unable to trace the men.

Police have taken up a cheating case on December 3 and are probing the matter.
