A constable attached to Upparpet police station committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Byraveshwara Nagar in Nelamangala on Wednesday, allegedly out of embarrassment that he could not trace his niece who had eloped. 

Krishnappa, 39, came home after finishing night shift and locked himself in a room. His family members called him for breakfast, but he did not respond. Thereafter, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan, police said. 

He had been taking care of his elder brother’s daughter who had recently finished her II PU exams. A few days ago, she eloped with a boy, leaving Krishnappa disturbed and embarrassed. His relatives had been constantly pressuring him to trace the girl. The Nelamangala police suspect that the failure to trace the girl drove him to suicide.
