The KG Halli police shot at two men with criminal antecedents and arrested them in early hours of Wednesday after they attacked cops with daggers.
The police were chasing the duo who were part of a six-member gang that had shot dead history-sheeter Parvez (48) on Broadway Road in Shivajinagar on Tuesday night, the police said.
The arrested are Shabeer (34), a history-sheeter with Shivajinagar police and Barkath, a habitual offender, who has several cases against him in KG Halli police station.
Around 8.55 pm on Tuesday, Shabeer and his five associates fired at Parvez and attacked his friends Kasif and Wajid Pasha with knives and machetes.
The police shifted the injured the trio to Bowring Hospital where Parvez was declared brought dead, said the police.
Alert sounded
Following a tip-off on the movements of the assailants, an alert was issued to the police stations in East division. Around 3 am on Wednesday, the Hennur police found two men moving suspiciously near Saraipalya bus stand on a two-wheeler which did not have a number plate. The duo sped on seeing the police.
Forest area
After chasing them in vain, the Hennur police alerted their KG Halli counterparts who were checking vehicles. The K G Halli police found the duo moving towards the forest area near HBR Layout 4th block and intercepted their bike.
“Head constables Padmanabh and Shaju Anthony identified Barkath and asked him to get down from the bike. Shabeer who was riding the bike pulled out a pistol and warned the cops to stay away. But the constables overpowered Shabeer and snatched the pistol from him. Shabeer and Barkath immediately pulled out daggers from their pockets and attacked the constables,” a senior officer said.
KG Halli inspector Srinivas, who was in mufti, fired one round in the air with his service revolver and warned the duo to surrender. But when they tried to attack Srinivas, he shot at the duo in their legs.
Out of danger
The two collapsed and were shifted to private hospital. The injured constables were shifted to another hospital. All of them are out of danger.
Two of Shabeer’s associates were detained based on the information given by him, the police said.
