Bengaluru: The Lokayukta officials on Saturday caught an assistant sub-inspector red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 to release an autorickshaw.
Vijay Kumar, ASI, attached to the Sanjaynagar police station in north Bengaluru, and his accomplice Syed Rizwan have been taken into custody by the Lokayukta police.
Lokayukta laid a trap to arrest Kumar and Rizwan after a KG Halli resident, Mahammad Sujath, filed a complaint with the anti-corruption watchdog. Sujath alleged that Kumar had illegally seized his autorickshaw and was demanding a Rs 50,000 bribe to release it.
The suspects were caught while accepting Rs 40,000 as an advance. Police have booked Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
