Bengaluru: In a special drive, the Bengaluru police verified the addresses of 411 foreigners in the city and found 29 of them overstaying their visas.
The police conducted surprise checks at bars and restaurants in the city ahead of the New Year celebrations.
Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda said that they have produced all 29 before the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and have sought their deportation.
Additionally, the police visited 1,633 bars and restaurants and 1,020 lodges, and checked for narcotic drugs. As many as 1,233 rowdy sheeters were interrogated by the police.
Nearly 380 people, earlier booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), were also interrogated.
After the checks, the police booked 29 COTPA cases, three cases under the Foreigners Act, and one case each under the NDPS Act and special acts.

According to the police, the checks were conducted ahead of the New Year celebrations to curb the movement of drugs.
