Claiming that a number of problems have come up in issuing Transferable Development Rights (TDR) in the city, a few corporators have urged the BBMP to retain the authority to issue TDR certificates.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is currently issuing TDRs for property owners. A debate must be initiated with the state government to resolve the issue permanently. Govind Raj Nagar corporator Umesh Shetty said about 136 houses in the ward do not have an approach road and the BBMP had decided to widen the road many years ago.

He said 216 roads in the area need to be widened, Shetty pointed out, saying: “Yet, it is stuck as some property owners have not agreed to take TDR.”

Another corporator Gautham Kumar said that since the guidance value of the properties could increase in the coming days, the BBMP must consider increasing the value of TDRs so that at least some people would opt for it.

Streetlights

BBMP passed an approval regarding the conversion of streetlights into LED. “The city is equipped with 4.85 lakh streetlight, and only 15-20% of them have been converted to LED,” said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad.
