On day one of vaccination of frontline workers, out of a target of 87,105, as little as 22%, that is, 18,763, were vaccinated. As many as 35,000 beneficiaries from the home department, rural development and panchayat raj, and revenue department are on the frontline workers list in Bengaluru to get vaccinated.
City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, DGP & IG Praveen Sood, ADGP Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Umesh Kumar and ADGP Amrit Paul got vaccinated here on Monday in Vidhana Soudha. Hubbali Dharwad Police Commissioner Sri Labhu Ram, Raichur SP Prakash Nikkam, Davanagere SP Hanumantharaya, Chitradurga SP Radhika G, and Vijayapura SP Anupam Agrawal got vaccinated in their respective districts.
Deputy Commissioners of various districts like Davanagere (Mahantesh Bilagi), Kalaburagi (Vasireddy Vijaya Jyothsna), Mandya (MV Venkatesh), Udupi (G Jagadish), Mysuru (Rohini Sindhuri), Chamarajanagar (MR Ravi), Bidar (R Ramachandran), and Dakshina Kannada (Dr KV Rajendra) also took the lead in getting vaccinated.
Dr Syed Sirajuddin Madni, Reproductive and Child Health Officer, Bangalore Urban district, told DH, "We had planned 2,673 beneficiaries out of which 1,062 beneficiaries were vaccinated, which is 39.73%. The challenge is that we don't govern BBMP areas and planning has become difficult. Ministry of Home Affairs has uploaded their beneficiaries to Bangalore Urban district as there is no separate BBMP district in Co-WIN portal. We can't even reassign all these beneficiaries to BBMP as it is not listed as a district."
"Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has also uploaded their beneficiaries in Bengaluru to Bangalore Urban district. All these people reside in BBMP limits. Our vaccination sites are just 19 in number. They're in KR Puram, Anekal Taluk, Rajarajeshwari etc. We were also responsible for vaccinating the top four police officials, so we went to Vidhan Soudha with the vaccine vial and vaccinator," Dr Madni said.
The districts that vaccinated the highest number of frontline workers are Bangalore Urban (1766 including BBMP), Chikkamagaluru (1048), Raichur (1045), Tumakuru (1306), Uttara Kannada (1192), and Vijayapura (1464).
