BBMP officials undertook an inspection of the Kalpalli crematorium near Frazer Town on Monday, following the protest by the residents of Bharatinagar on Sunday, over the poor state of affairs there.

The Palike officials said that they would improve the infrastructure of the crematorium-cum-burial ground at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. Sarvajnanagar ward Corporator Shashirekha Mukund said that the crematorium building was old and it leaked during rains. Drinking water facility would be provided, she said.

The members of the Bharatinagar Residents’ Forum are happy with the response.

“We hope that the project is started at the earliest. If the BBMP officials fail to keep the promise, we will continue the protest,” said N S Ravi, president of the forum.
