The Bescom restored power supply in Nagasandra at least 48 hours after a telecom firm damaged the electricity cables, while laying the optical fibre cables (OFCs).

As the damage was severe, Bescom had to draw power lines from another feeder to restore supply. It had to defunct the damaged cable to draw another line which reportedly cost Bescom a huge sum.

Executive engineer Narayana Swamy said Bescom would send a demand notice to the telecom company to pay for the damage. It would also file a complaint with the police for causing damage to the public property and causing inconvenience to the public.

FIR not filed

A few residents of Nagasandra said that they had lodged a police complaint. But so far, no first information report has been registered. The telecom firm had dug up the road on Saturday evening without prior information to the Bescom, BWSSB and BSNL.

It is learnt that the firm had sought permission to dig only 9 km of road, but dug nearly 90 km. Some Bescom officials had reportedly warned the telecom firm about the feeder line. In spite of the warning, power cables, water pipelines and BSNL telephone lines were damaged, affecting large parts in Nagasandra and also a few areas in Peenya Industrial Area.
