This Sunday, a classical dance production will explore the symbolic connection between the five elements of nature and five iconic women from the ‘Puranas’.

Titled ‘Paridhi: Realm of Prakriti and Panchabhootas’, the Bharatanatyam show will be presented by the Itihasa Foundation, an arts organisation based in Bengaluru.

Vaishnavi Bhat, who has conceptualised the hour-long show and also features in it, says it is a tribute to the belief that every woman embodies the essence of nature. The performance opens with a depiction of the confluence of the five elements — fire, sky, earth, wind, and water. This is followed by solo acts, each portraying a mythological woman who personifies one of these elements: Droupadi as fire, Rohini (the star) as sky, Seeta as earth, Anjana as wind, and Yamuna as water.

The dancers will perform to Sanskrit and Kannada shlokas, with lyrics by Sharath Prabhu and music and vocals composed and rendered by Rohith Bhat.

This performance is part of a monthly series called 'Rasa', hosted by the venue, Medai - The Stage.

On May 4, 11 am, at Medai — The Stage, Koramangala. Tickets online.
