Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging the state government to address Bengaluru’s congestion.

Moily also recommended the development of satellite towns near Bengaluru to alleviate pressure on the city's infrastructure.

In a letter dated February 8, Moily highlighted that the city’s high population density and housing strain have led to the chaos.

"To enhance Bengaluru’s reputation, satellite towns should be developed within a 30 km radius of the city. This will ease the burden on Bengaluru and make the city more livable," Moily, a former union minister, said.

Siddaramiah has forwarded Moily’s letter to the Urban Development Department (UDD) and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Experts have been advocating for the decongestion of Bengaluru through the creation of large townships around the city, rather than spending an estimated Rs 1 lakh crore on tunnel roads, elevated corridors, and other infrastructure projects that could turn Bengaluru into a construction hub for decades.

They believe that companies would relocate to new satellite towns if the government provides essential infrastructure such as connectivity, water supply, and electricity.
