Bengaluru: The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has issued a Rs 11.20-crore contract to SR Construction Company for developing a tree park in the now-defunct New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) plant, which is situated in Baiyyappanahalli on Old Madras Road.

The work is expected to be ready in six months.

According to the officials, the tree park will be developed in two phases. In the first phase, costing Rs 11 crore, the park will have an entrance gate, plaza, sculpture court, a toilet block, food court, water front, and an elevated walkway. In the second phase, an innovation hub, nursery, sports facility, and multi-purpose theatre has been planned.

The NGEF plant is spread across 105 acres. Ever since it was shut in 2002, access was barred to the public. Once the first phase is ready, the government is likely to provide access to the public, which is also going to be a huge attraction for the residents of east Bengaluru who do not have large public places.
