Bengaluru: A 21-year-old city student allegedly died by suicide after her parents refused permission for a photoshoot on New Year’s Eve, police officials said on Monday.

The victim, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), stayed with her parents in Sudhamanagar in Central Bengaluru. Her parents found her body hanging from a ceiling fan inside her room on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the victim had recently completed a course in photography.

Her parents told the police that she had sought their permission on Saturday for a photoshoot at a mall on New Year’s Eve, which they refused. She then went into her room and took the extreme step.

The jurisdictional Wilson Garden police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and handed over the body to her family after an autopsy.

“No note has been found,” an investigator said. “Further investigations are underway and we are also checking her mobile phone.”
