The Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) will take up a project to process sea water to meet shortage of drinking water of Bengaluru, KSIIDC chairman C M Dhananjay said.
Dhananjay told reporters, “Tamil Nadu has already shown that desalination process can end water shortage. We have plans to set up a plant in Mangaluru which can convert 10 lakh litres of sea water into drinking water. We need 14 months to set up such a unit.”
He said the Mangaluru project will be implemented at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore with the help of Mecon, a Central government company. “Spain and Israel have offered technical expertise. We have reserved Rs 50 lakh for the project feasibility report and requested the chief minister to announce the project in the budget,” he said.
