The flagging of Namma Metro's first six-car train did not happen without causing some inconvenience to hundreds of commuters at the Baiyappanahalli metro station on Friday evening.
Considering that the chief minister was to flag off the train at 5.30 pm, security personnel closed the two entry points to the station's concourse building during the peak hour, leading to large crowds.
"Around 5.45 pm, a suburban train from Whitefield arrived at Baiyappanahalli. In the next 10 minutes, there was a sea of railway passengers who came to the metro station. But they had to wait for nearly half an hour to get into the paid area," said Srirekha Mallapalli, a passenger who wanted to travel to Majestic.
On the other side, the foot overbridge between the metro station and Swami Vivekananda Road was packed and once the gate to the concourse opened, there was a rush of passengers, some of whom did not walk through metal detectors. Police who had come for additional security had to intervene to control the crowd, she added.
