JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and his family members are involved in irregularities related to Shantinagar housing cooperative society and demanded that the State government should order a CBI inquiry into it.

Addressing reporters, he charged Shivakumar and his brother and Congress MP D K Suresh with grabbing 66 acres of land in Bengaluru allotted by the then government led by Ramakrishna Hegde to the society. The intention was to distribute sites to dalits and poor, he added.

Kumaraswamy said the Energy minister and his brother illegally took over the land meant for the society by floating a fake society. The society floated by the minister later illegally alloted 154 sites to members of a single family.

It is one of the biggest scams related to housing cooperative societies in the State. The minister has not only hoodwinked the government but also cheated dalits and poor who were seeking sites.

Only a CBI probe will bring out the truth, he said and added that he is ready to discuss the issue in the State Legislature session scheduled to be held in Belagavi on December 8. The JD(S) leader also said his party will use Belagavi session to discuss burning problems of people of north Karnataka and will not disrupt the proceedings unnecessarily.
