Doctors from the State were felicitated for their dedication on National Doctors’ Day on Tuesday.

In an event that was organised by the Indian Science Monitor, four doctors were given Dr B C Roy memorial awards for their extraordinary contribution to the field.

Justice N Santosh Hegde, who presented the awards, said the field of health, medicine and education needed more attention.

Expressing his concern over the poor condition of government hospitals in the State, the former Lokayukta said the government must allocate more budget to both education and medical fields.

Dr Shivprasad Reddy, dean and director, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, was awarded for his contribution in the field of ophthalmology, Dr T S Manohar, Medical Superintendent, Adichunchunagiri Institute of Medical Science, for his contribution in the field of medical education and rural medical care,  Dr M Ramesh Makam for his contribution in the field of bariatrics surgery and Dr T H Anjanappa, Dean and Principal, Sambhram Institute of Medical Science and Research, KGF, for his contribution in the field of gastroenterology.

Rajmahal Vilas Hospital, Bangalore was awarded for its contribution in the field of health care in the institutes category.
