Dr David Fielding, Professor Royal Brisbane Clinical Unit, Australia,  told DH: “Complications are something that all the doctors globally face and this conference is a reflection of the honesty of the team to talk about this. Discussions about complications should be held worldwide. It also helps us understand the possibilities of the complications that we might have to face in the future.”

The conference dissected each part of the lungs and discussed the complications in each part.

Pulmonologists across the country had case studies of their patients and explained the problem, what went wrong and how it was salvaged.

Speaking about the conference, Dr Pyng Lee, Director of Interventional Pulmonology, Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore, said: “The discussions around complications helps us understand that someone else is going through the same thing as us and offers mental stability.”

Dr Ravindra Mehta, Founder and Director, Vaayu Chest and Sleep Specialists, and Senior Consultant and Head Pulmonology, Interventional Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, and organiser of the event, said: “We will take the discussion of complications in interventional pulmonology to greater heights in our department. We all face complications due to numerous reasons and we have to come forward to accept it, so we can discuss it and minimise the risks.”

A workshop was held to teach doctors the complications that could arise and effective ways to manage them. The complications of interventional pulmonology include bleeding, low oxygen level, air leak from lungs and equipment failure. With technology, risks of complications have reduced.
