BWSSB Chairman V Ram Prasath Manohar joined staff and BBMP pourakarmikas to clean Sankey Lake overnight. Garbage had accumulated around the lake after the programme ended around 10.30 pm, and clearing efforts went on till about 3 am.

“We want to be eco-sensitive. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about water conservation so we wanted to take all measures to ensure there was no water pollution and waste in the lake premises,” said Manohar.

Temporary seating arrangements that were set up for the public to witness the Cauvery Aarti were also dismantled by early morning so as to not impede the morning walkers’ routine.

Solid waste such as paper or plastic waste were collected in large dust bins placed at nodal points throughout the premises. While the BBMP pourakarmikas focused on cleaning the road and footpath space outside Sankey Tank, the BWSSB team cleared the area inside.

Several residents of the area who spoke to DH also explained that the quick action of the BWSSB was to their satisfaction, with many clicking photographs and sharing them on local groups.
