Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), earlier this week, set in motion the second launching girder for the long-delayed 2.5-km flyover on the Inner Ring Road, connecting Koramangala's Kendriya Sadan and Ejipura.
With authorities revising the deadline to December 2025, the move is expected to accelerate the project's progress.
On Tuesday, Transport Minister and BTM Layout MLA Ramalinga Reddy inspected the site along with BBMP engineers.
"In the last month, the contractor has completed about 10% of the civil work. This is significant, considering that less than 10% of the project had been completed after the new construction firm took over from the previous contractor, who went bankrupt," he said.
However, Reddy pointed out that the BBMP has yet to acquire all the land required for the project, despite its approval nearly seven years ago.
"A small portion has been acquired, but a significant land parcel belonging to St John's Hospital is still pending. I will hold discussions with the hospital management to ensure the project stays on track for completion by December," he added.
The project has gained momentum over the past month following Reddy’s intervention. He convened a meeting with stakeholders after complaints surfaced that the construction firm had failed to meet the BBMP’s monthly milestones since work was sanctioned in November 2023.
While the BBMP considered terminating the contract, Reddy advised against it, warning that such a move could cause further delays.
