Graceful Bharatanatyam

It was an evening of majestic and graceful moves at Alliance Francaise. After the launch of the book Attendance by Ashish Mohan Khokar, mesmerising dance performances followed to add charm to the event. The audience sat back and
relaxed as they were taken on a splendid dance journey for the rest of the evening.
The event kickstarted with B P Sweekruth dancing for a Kathak Stuti — Tatkar Tukdas. This was followed by Seshadri Iyengar’s Bharatanatyam Mallari. The most exciting of all the dances was the Shiva Tandava Stotra which was performed by Tushar Bhatt. Lord Shiva’s power and strength were shown with great valour leaving the audience dumbstruck. The performance was powerful and breathtaking and the expressions of Lord Shiva were shown so well, that they left a lasting impact on the audience. The movements were swift, and the clothing and music was apt to the situation.

Most people who just came for the book release finally ended up staying for the performance and they were enthralled. Rajat, a dance student who was present at the event said, “I simply loved all the performances that I saw this evening. I learnt a lot and was able to rectify the mistakes I commit as a dancer. It was a great
learning experience for me. Though all the dances were good, Nayaka Padam by Praveen Kumar was something which caught my attention the most and finally left me stupefied.”

It was a rare opportunity to witness many dancers coming together in one platform and also the combination of Bharatanatyam and Kathak made the occasion more special. Radha, who was present at the event said, “The performance was exhilarating. I was swept off when each of the dancers performed. The costumes and the eyes of the dancers, their hand and leg movements put me in the mood to dance as well.”

Before the curtains came down, there was a concluding performance by all the dancers, which was more of a fusion and was done very well. The co-ordination between all the seven dancers was perfect. Plus there was a sense of uniqueness and elegance in the performance.
