Former Karnataka state police chief Ajai Kumar Singh, 69, lost Rs 2.13 lakh after fraudsters allegedly hacked his bank account last year.
The cyber fraud happened in July and was reported to the jurisdictional Pulakeshinagar police station at the time. On Monday, East CEN police re-registered the case on the directions of the deputy commissioner of police (east).
In the police complaint, Singh had stated that he received a series of messages, including OTPs, on his phone number linked to the bank account. In total, he said he received about 50 OTPs and around 61 fraudulent transaction messages one after the other between 11.15 pm and 11.30 pm that day in July.
The next day, he went to the bank to find out the issue and was shocked to learn that his bank account had been hacked.
Singh, a 1974-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre, retired as director-general and inspector-general of police (DG&IGP) in 2011.
