A Lokayukta court recently sentenced K Krishnamoorthy to three years' imprisonment and fined him Rs 30 lakh.

In 2013, Krishnamoorthy was raided by the Lokayukta police, who found that he had total assets of Rs 72.54 lakh. Further investigations showed that between 1990 and 2013, he had earned Rs 42.55 lakh, while the rest of the money was disproportionate to his known sources of income.

During the trial, Krishnamoorthy told the court that he practised fortune telling, but didn't charge for it. However, he accepted anything the clients gave him. Later, he told the court that through fortune telling, he had earned Rs 5 lakh.

The court was irked by the contradictory statements and rejected his explanations, sentencing him to jail time.
