Ahead of Independence Day, Bangalore International Centre (BIC) is hosting an interactive exhibition centred on the lived memories of those who survived the 1947 Partition.

Titled ‘Un.Divided Identities’, the exhibition is curated by ReReeti, a cultural organisation that works with museums.

“We first created a digital exhibition in 2022, which is still available online. The physical version takes the experience further. It was conceived to reach younger audiences, who often encounter Partition as a distant political event in history textbooks. Personal stories are rarely mentioned,” said Tejshvi Jain, founder-director of ReReeti.

She added that although researchers and archivists have documented many such stories over the past two decades, they haven’t reached school students or young adults. “We wanted to bridge this gap,” she said.

These stories can be viewed on electronic tablets, which will be placed around the exhibition space. The setting will feature smoke, rubble, broken objects and dramatic lighting to evoke the tumultuous period.

Tejshvi stressed that the exhibition aims to open up perspectives. “Without ever experiencing Partition, people carry prejudices. We want young minds to look at different viewpoints and make up their own minds,” she said.

August 6-10 at BIC, Domlur. Entry free. Schools can book slots for guided visits. Details on bangaloreinternationalcentre.org
