Bengaluru: A failed police sub-inspector aspirant and three accomplices allegedly barged into an elevator technician's house in northwestern Bengaluru and robbed him. Police arrested all four.
Mallikarjuna H (27), a Ballari native who did not qualify in the PSI exam, and three accomplices entered the house of Naveen KA in Vidyaranyapura around 11.30 pm on December 7.
Mallikarjuna wore a police uniform stitched at a tailoring shop in Kamakshipalya.
His three associates, Pramod V, 30, Vinay HT, 36, and Hrithvik P, 24, were in plainclothes.
The men introduced themselves as crime investigators and accused Naveen of peddling drugs. Despite Naveen’s resistance, they searched his house, assaulted him with lathis and metal rods, and filmed the incident.
They later forced Naveen to transfer Rs 87,000 to their bank account and took away Rs 55,000 in cash, according to a police complaint lodged on December 9.
Vidyaranyapura police registered a case under BNS Section 311 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and arrested all four.
Hrithvik had told Mallikarjuna about Naveen, and they planned the robbery. Police have recovered only Rs 45,000, but impounded a car and a two-wheeler.
