Although Darshan, Pavithra and 15 others were granted bail by the High Court, the Supreme Court overturned the order
on Thursday, prompting police to take Darshan back into custody.

As news of his arrest spread, fans in huge numbers gathered outside Darshan’s home to catch a glimpse of him.

‘Will always stand by him’

Manju, an autodriver, who was at Raja Rajeshwari Nagar on Thursday, expressed his sadness over the turn of events.

“I don’t think he has done anything wrong. I come here every alternate day to catch a glimpse of DBoss (fans’ moniker for Darshan). I even shook his hand last week. Fans will always be with him,” he said.

A 19-year-old student, a diehard fan of Darshan, said, “The actor had to send a message to people that there will be consequences for one’s actions and he is not wrong. I will support him regardless of the final outcome.”

Meanwhile, a fan who had come all the way from Hassan reasoned that the Supreme Court had only ruled against the bail order.

“He (Darshan) will eventually win the case. Even if he doesn’t, his true fans will stand by him,” the fan said.

Neighbours and onlookers also packed into the small lanes in Raja Rajeshwari Nagar leading to Pavithra Gowda’s home. One of Pavithra’s neighbours, however, pointed out that none was above the law.

“If she has committed a mistake, she has to face the consequences,” the neighbour told DH.

‘Will not issue threats’

No true fans of Darshan would ever issue threats and crude messages, said a 27-year-old Darshan fan from Kanakapura, referring to the recent controversy that erupted after actress Ramya received death threats for her statements on the case.
