A sense of fear and anxiety has gripped the residents of ‘C’ Block of Queens Corner apartment on Cunningham Road following damage caused to the foundation due to excavation carried out at an adjoining housing project site.
The occupants have moved out of their flats. All 32 families are being housed in a hotel, till the structural and soil strengthening work is complete, they are scared about returning to their flats. For, they fear the building might cave in anytime soon as the foundation has been affected.
The families moved out of the ‘C’ Block of the apartment after they heard a loud noise and water gushing out from a water pipeline from the neighbourhood construction site on Monday. Tangam Venky, a resident on the fifth floor of the ‘C’ block, said that when the water pipeline broke, it was pretty scary and after a sink hole was created inside the apartment premises, they walked out of the building. “One of the occupants of the apartment told us it was a red zone and we had to immediately vacate the apartment. Unless a structural engineer inspects and informs us that the building is safe, we cannot return,” she added.
