After all that happened in the City last month, the idea of depending on a man for security seems like a no-brainer. Now women have to either take care of themselves or depend on other women to be safe.
It is because of this growing mistrust that the idea of hiring ‘women bouncers’ is taking root. Hitherto a male-dominated profession, women are now making it to the bouncer’s brigade, with many inducting themselves into the profession.
Although the concept itself is in nascent stages, some have already begun allotting female bouncers to night clubs, corporate offices and providing them for late night parties so that no threats from outside or from internal hooligans spoil the fun.
Talking to Metrolife Ashutosh Sharma, chief communication officer of Jynxxx, a hi-end pub in South Delhi, says, “We have three female bouncers in our pub. We have kept them to take care of only women as male bouncers are not allowed to even touch female guests.
They escort lady guests, handle those who are high on alcohol and even take care of their security.” According to Ashutosh, they all have a good build, are 5”5’ plus in height and mostly hail from Haryana.
Conventionally bouncers are often required where crowd-size or alcohol consumption may result in arguments or possible fights or where the threat or presence of criminal gang activity is high. But, after looking at the great threat to women, even corporate offices have started keeping female bouncers.
Secura Security Solutions (SSS) is one of the agencies providing female bouncers to corporate offices. “We have three-four female bouncers, who are deployed at a few offices.
The demand for female bouncers is increasing keeping the current scenario in mind. Cases are increasing day by day and it is mindset of the people that needs to change. To what extent can you save a person?
It is practically not possible to safeguard each and every woman in the City. So, the change has to start from within,” says Sham Singh the company’s director.
