The Indian Institute of Science  has organised its first-ever flagship event, – IISconnect - a one-on-one engagement between industries and students, on Monday. The special focus of the event will be to provide an industry interface for graduating PhD students.

Organised by the office of Career Counselling and Placements (OCCAP), the aim of IISconnect is to foster greater and stronger industry-academia collaborations. The event is meant for post-graduate and undergraduate science students of all years, PhD scholars - to come together and interact with representatives of industries, companies, R&D firms and the IISc alumni.

“We are facilitating such employment on our campus in a concerted way for the first time. The growing R&D activity in India now seeks many more PhD graduates than ever before,” said Professor Narendra M Dixit, a member of the OCCAP committee. More students are graduating with doctorates from IISc than earlier and many are interested in exploring employment avenues in the industry, he said.

Apart from campus recruitments and internships, discussions between IISc and industry representatives on research collaborations, student fellowships, sponsored projects, technology transfers and philanthropic donations and endowments, have also been planned.

“By participating in this event, the R&D industry gets to see a large number of talented PhDs in diverse disciplines. Our students benefit from exploring a large number of employment avenues. Finding a suitable match should thus be readily possible,” added Dixit.
