The accused — identified as Narayanalal, 43, Keeraram, 35, Pushpendra Singh, 35, Mahendra Gehlot, 27, and Dilip Kumar, 36 — were arrested following a investigation spanning several states.

Around 4 pm on May 9, two people entered a jewellery shop, wagged a knife and threatened a worker before making off with 41 gold chains, weighing about 600 grams.

The robbery took place while the shop owner had left the worker alone to go for lunch.

Acting on the owner’s complaint, the KR Puram police launched an investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of one suspect and a receiver of the stolen gold in Borunda village, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, on June 4.

Interrogation of these two individuals revealed the involvement of two more accomplices, the police said.

Subsequently, on June 5, another suspect was arrested in Moodalapalya, Annapoorneshwari Nagar.

These three suspects were produced before the court and remanded in police custody for 14 days.

Further questioning led to the arrest of two more suspects in Dolaka village, Pali district, Rajasthan, on June 13, according to the police.

From June 8 to 24, based on information provided by the suspects, the police seized 478 grams of gold ornaments, a two-wheeler used in the crime and the knife. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at Rs 50 lakh.

On June 26, the four main suspects were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
